United Publications

A redesign for a dated online store.

Redesigning a dated online store

This redesign is a personal undertaking to demonstrate how a site I’ve used for many years can benefit from some updated design philosophies.

Before

As you can see, before my redesign of the homepage, United Publications is quite dated, especially in terms of layout where you find the majority of the content stacked up in the sidebars where they would be better moved to the centre of the page.

In my redesign, I address the layout among other issues. I’ve made the images clickable here in case you have trouble reading the annotations on the process.

After

This is the final redesign of the homepage. It took about a day to finish and I believe it addresses many of the problems that the current design has.

That said, I don’t work for United Publications so I don’t have an experience with whatever e-commerce platform they use. Therefore, if I had access to that information and their data, my design decisions would have been informed differently, potentially resulting in a different design. However, I believe good portion of the things I’ve done here can be applied universally such as decluttering and simplifying certain aspects of the page.

Process

I’ve linked the images to larger versions so that you can read the annotations more easily.
